Television plays animportant role in our daily lives, which brings us both pleasure and hiddendanger. And therefore, more and more people start thinking advantages and disadvantages. Here are some my opinions as below.

First, when it comes to the advantages, we take delight in talking about that it provides with diverse variety of information, such TV series, news, advertisement and so on.All these broaden our sights vastly and make the whole world available even if we are sitting on a couch.

Second, when it comes to the disadvantages, the inevitable aspects are that it brings about massive negative or even pornographic messages. These really do harm to our development, especially for children.

To sum up,television is a double-edged sword. It is up to ourselves how to make the best use of this production.

Good TV, Bad TV

Lost

Synopsis - Beautiful people crash on a mysterious island, and have mini adventures each week. Not with actual minis though.

The Good - Most of the large ensemble cast are extremely talented and carry the show easily. Each episode contains flashbacks of people's lives before the crash, revealing interesting secrets, and there's usually a great plot twist every episode.

The Bad - Most episodes of season two have followed a worryingly formulaic pattern; On one of the lostaways hearing a new piece of information of particular interest to them, they and two or three others (one of them usually very reluctant to go) go on an expedition to discover something. On the way, they'll stop to have character-developing conversations, after which one of them will notice something bizarre out of the corner of their eye. It's not always this repetitive, but it's sad that things are already coming a bit predictable. However, despite the uninspiring dialogue, it's still a great show.

Battlestar Galactica

Synopsis - After a huge attack by Cylons, a fleet of 50,000 humans flee the 12 colonies in search of their ancestral homeplace Earth.

The Good - Of course, it's not the most important thing in the world, but the special effects are incredible. The best seen on TV. Again, the acting is for the most part good, and the dialogue is also great, particularly the interplay between the deranged Baltar and the imaginary Cylon in his head. At it's best, this show tops everything else out there. However...

The Bad - If there's a big continuing storyline to be had, then everything's great (see the 7-episode arc at the start of the season 2, and the recent Pegasus plotline). Individual episodes are so obviously filler, it's untrue. If a more even balance could be struck, then it'd be fantastic.

Quality - 9/10

House

Synopsis - Hugh Laurie plays a cynical genius doctor, who each week solves some bizarre medical case.

The Good - I mentioned Hugh Laurie in the synopsis, because without him, this show would almost certainly be shite. Nevertheless, he fortunately is in there, and is possibly the single best character in TV at the moment. More mean and bitter even than Dr. Cox, he always gets hilarious one-liners and delivers them all perfectly.

The Bad - The other characters are still a bit two-dimensional, perhaps rightfully so. It's also extremely formulaic, and there isn't as much continuity as in other shows.

Quality - 7/10

Hustle

Synopsis - My only British show on this list, about a group of con artists working intricate cons against shifty Londoners.

The Good - It reeks of style and has the best theme tune in the world ever.

The Bad - It lacks substance and is quite predictable (despite trying not to be).

Quality - 5/10

Scrubs

Synopsis - wacky hospital bizarre drama.

The Good - In early seasons, it got the mix of comedy and poignancy just right. In fact, it was a better drama than most dramas. Also, in the character of Dr. Cox, they nailed the idea of a loveable bastard to a tee.

The Bad - My, my, my, where did it all go wrong? Like Spin City before it, Scrubs transformed from amazing to barely watchable in just a few years. Also for the same reason as Spin City; it just got too silly.

Quality - 9/10 in days of yore, now 4/10

Neighbours

Synopsis - It's about neighbours.

The Good -

The Bad - It's shite. It's the shitest show ever. Because of this, I can't stop watching it when I'm in. Someone shoot me now. Or at least send me back to uni.

Quality - 1/10

In the above list, I only mention shows that I've been watching recently. For reference, the only show I would ever give 10/10 is Firefly as in just 14 episodes, it managed to achieve everything a show should; wit, drama, fully developed characters, and an interesting background. It's three years on, and I still miss it like the child I always wanted. Or something like that.
